Eighteen islands, stranded in the North Atlantic between Norway, Iceland, and Scotland, pushed up from the ocean floor by ancient volcanic activity and then carved by glaciers into the sharp fjord-and-plateau landscape that defines them today. The Faroes are small, the entire archipelago fits within roughly 1,400 km², but the terrain is anything but modest: steep basalt cliffs, narrow sound passages between islands, and an interior plateau system that drops abruptly to sea level on almost every side.

At 1:185,000, this is one of the most detailed pieces in the collection. The tight scale means individual fjords, valleys, and inter-island channels are clearly readable, and the shallow coastal shelf, visible in the bathymetric gradient, makes the islands look precisely like what they are: the exposed tips of a submerged volcanic plateau.
